Monday Market Update - May 10, 2011

Happy Monday and I hope you all had a fabulous Mother's Day! I certainly did!
Well, there was mixed reports on jobs from the Labor Dept. last week. The report released last weeked showed 244,000 jobs were created in April (which is the biggest increase since 2006) but at the same time, the unemployment rate creeped up again to 9% from 8.8%. This news just shows that the jobs that have been created is not making a significant dent in the # of jobless Americans (yet). On the bright side, the tone of the news is positive and we are certainly headed in the right direction, albeit slowly. As the labor market improves so will the economy and the housing industry which will inevitably result in higher interest rates.
We continued to see increased activity here locally with sales continuing to increase. I'm still cautiously optimistic and am watching the market trends very closely. If you have a specific question or interest in a neighborhood or area, let us know and we'll be happy to send you the market trends for that area.
