NHC School Open Houses and Tax Free Weekend
Can you believe it’s almost August already? That means school will be starting soon. Eek! “School”. That dreaded word.
Yep, August 27 is the first day of school for the 2012-13 traditional school year calendar. Starting in early August, schools across our area will be having their annual open houses, so parents can tour the schools with their children. It’s a great opportunity to familiarize yourself with the school campus, learn
all about what they have planned for the year, educate yourself on school policies, and make sure your child’s information is all in order. Many schools use a notification system to warn parents of early dismissal and schedule changes, so it’s important to make sure that your information is correct. Ashley Barker over at WECT.com has graciously posted the schedule for this year’s New Hanover County Schools open houses. Head on over to her blog post to check out that schedule.
Students are also heading back to college soon. That means TAX FREE WEEKEND is here! This weekend, August 3-5, shoppers can save money on clothing, school supplies, and computers. Some stores even run sales in addition to the tax free incentive. This is a great time to buy all those school supplies needed for the coming year. To read how coupons and rebates affect taxes, read the North Carolina Department of Revenue’s press release on the sales tax holiday.
