Sitegeist App Helps You Make Better Home Buying Decisions

As Wilmington REALTORS®, we are bound to the Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity laws (FHEO), which means we cannot discriminate against any person during the real estate process.

Article 10 of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® Code of Ethics  states:

“REALTORS® shall not deny equal professional services to any person for reasons of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender identity. REALTORS® shall not be parties to any plan or agreement to discriminate against a person or persons on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender identity. REALTORS®, in their real estate employment practices, shall not discriminate against any person or persons on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender identity.”

We understand how big a home purchase is. After all, a home is not an investment you can easily liquidate. So, you want to know you’re making the right purchase. Doing so, you probably want to know about crime, schools, religious centers, etc. However, we’re not allowed to share that information or our own opinion on an area, because it could be seen as steering and discriminating under FHEO laws.

But there’s good news for you! We live in the information age, which means software and web developers are getting more and more creative with how they access and share public information. A new mobile app called Sitegeist can make discovering information about a neighborhood easier while you’re on the go. It reads your current location and then feeds your phone information about local people, housing, fun, weather, and historical data.
