In Case You Missed It

Good news for fans of Carolina Beach Boardwalk! You’ll notice there are a few new places to eat at in the area. Don’t worry – Frank’s Pizza and Britt’s Donuts are still there. But now you can add DJ’s Fries (homemade style and funnel fries), Island Hots (hot dogs in the Old Trolley Stop), and Hurricane Alley (seafood/sandwich shop/bar) to your to-try list.

The Wilmington Regional Film Commission is working to fill growing demands for filming locations. They’re looking to grow their database of interesting properties and are hiring a location scout to do it. If you have a property (barn, farmhouse, restaurant, store, old church, etc.) that you would be willing to allow film companies to use, you can reach them at 343-3456 or commish@wilmingtonfilm.com. Want a homeowner’s insider view of their home being used in a film? Check out “Is Your Home Ready for a Closeup”.

Wilmington’s new arts council has moved into its office at 221 N. Front St., next to Pender's Café. The group currently goes by "The Arts Council of Wilmington and New Hanover County." After they have completely settled in, the council will choose a permanent director (Rhonda Bellamy is the temporary director), create an official logo, and begin awarding grants to local artists. The space includes a board room, gallery, copiers, etc. that are meant to be used with other artist groups and single artists in the area. The council’s goal is to help the local artist community thrive, because local arts generate a significant income (over $6 million) for New Hanover County.
