New Hanover Schools district leaders voted to allow Laney High School’s Logo to be used on an upcoming vintage clothing by Nike inspired by basketball great Michael Jordan. The clothing line is to be in honor of Michael Jordan turning 50 years-old. Jordan graduated from Laney High School in 1981. The high school will receive 5% of all proceeds from the sales. Melissa McCarthy (Mike and Molly; Bridesmaids) is coming to Wilmington to film her new movie, Tammy. McCarthy wrote the script with her husband and plans to star in it. The film is believed to be about a woman who embarks on a road trip with her eccentric mother after she finds out her husband has been unfaithful. Read more at WECT.
The first block of Market Street is a finalist in the American Planning Association’s North Carolina Chapter’s “Great Main Streets” contest. That is the block right by the river in downtown Wilmington. The contest runs until March 15th and the location with the most votes by 5 p.m. wins the title. US Airways is adding a second daily flight from Wilmington International Airport to Washington DC. The new flight begins April 1st. Read more, including the daily times, at the Greater Wilmington Business Journal.
Are you expecting or have a newborn? The 15th Annual Cape Fear Maternity & Baby Expo is happening this weekend at the Coastline Conference and Event Center in downtown Wilmington. Saturday, March 9th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., visitors can view displays and information from the area’s top providers of products and services. People will be on hand demonstrating the best way to child-proof your home, make homemade baby food, and more. Plus, Peanut Butter & Jelly will be giving away a ‘Nursery of your Dreams’.
