In Case You Missed It

The trailers for locally filmed movies Iron Man 3 and Safe Haven have been released. You can see IM3 here and Safe Haven here. In the IM3 trailer, you can see the people that were filmed over the Cape Fear River and the Safe Haven trailer shows the building that was burned down, so keep your eyes peeled.

New Hanover County early voting sites are reporting that voters are coming in a steady stream comparable to the 2008 elections. However, early voting sites in Pender County and Brunswick County are reporting an increase in voters from the 2008 elections. The N.C. State Board of Elections is reporting an overall 30% increase across the state. Learn more at the StarNews.

Last fall, the N.C. Department of Transportation purchased Pages Creek Marine on Market Street as one of the first land purchases for the Military Cutoff Road extension. Boat owners have been notified they have until the end of the month to remove their boats. Work doesn’t start until 2017 and affected home owners won’t receive notice until 2014.

This past August, WECT meteorologist Colin Hackman helped save a man’s life while in Pittsburgh visiting family. Hackman had just finished running the Brookline Breeze 5K when he noticed Tim Keefer lying on the ground unresponsive. He administered CPR and was soon joined by EMTs. Together, they were able to bring Keefer back to life. October 19, Hackman was presented with an award from the Wilmington Fire Department. Read the full story.

The Cape Fear Fair & Expo starts tomorrow, Thursday, October 25th and runs through Saturday, November 3rd, at the Wilmington International Airport. The Cameron Art Museum has announced that it will be this year’s location for the annual Festival of Trees, a fundraiser for the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center. Twenty-five elaborately decorated trees will be displayed in the museum’s reception from November 24th through December 2nd. Learn more here.
